In her early modelling and stripping gigs, she forged a unique look based on vintage 40s & 50s style outfits, hairstyles and makeup blended with modern goth and fetish elements. Her elaborate, elegant and playful burlesque routines are legendary.
In 1999-2000, she performed in two porn films directed Andrew Blake, known for his stylish all-girl porn videos that look like fashion photography or perfume commercials.
In April 2008, soon after Dita von Teese had launched a new Wonderbra ad campaign, British tabloid The Sun trumpeted a supposedly shocking revelation about her “secret hardcore porn past” in a “kinky lesbian movie”. The article revealed, “Explicit clips of the 35-year-old being spanked and pleasured with a bizarre sex toy by women have emerged online. . . . The sleazy flick – shot before she rose to fame – will shock lingerie bosses.”
As it turns out, the “secret” Dita von Teese sex tape was actually a clip from Pin-Ups 2, the more explicit of her two Andrew Blake films. Her performance did indeed feature some hot girl-girl sex and cool sex toys.
