After his 2008 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination ended, John Edwards confirmed rumors that he had been having an affair with Rielle Hunter. The National Enquirer reported the affair in October 2007, but more respectable news outlets ignored the story for months. Hunter had a child in February 2008. She previously announced that the father was Edwards campaign staffer Andrew Young, but many claim that Edwards himself is the father. Hunter spent some time living with Young and his family during her pregnancy.
In 2009, Young signed a book deal to write about the Edwards campaign and scandal. In the book proposal, he reportedly claims that John Edwards is the true father of Hunter’s child and that he, Young, agreed to be the fall guy because he believed strongly in Edwards’ campaign. Edwards himself denies this.
Andrew Young also reportedly tells in his book proposal about finding a sex tape showing John Edwards and Rielle Hunter.
