Real? Maybe.
On January 30, 2012, Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was spotted drinking at Sherlock’s Baker St. Pub & Grill in Dallas. Hamilton is a recovering alcoholic, and the alleged “relapse” became a big local story.
On February 6, 2011, Dallas-based D magazine posted a blog item entitled “Josh Hamilton Sex Tape?” stating:
Well, now it appears that there might be a sex tape from Sherlock’s. Randy Galloway says two people are shopping images taken that night of Hamilton in flagrante.
The D blog post was referring to this bit from Randy Galloway’s February 4 column in the Star-Telegraph:
Not that anybody has asked me yet, but, no, I’m not interested in paying $10,000 or $100,000 for pix/videos that a creep or two claim to have involving Josh’s over-served activity at a Dallas bar.
I know one member of a local news organization who was given the $10,000 sales pitch and refused to pay, and there’s another case of some guy claiming to want $100,000 to turn over his sordid photos.
Josh hinted Friday in his ballpark media session that some photos he’s not proud of could surface, becoming another kind of issue he says he will deal with.
The actual link in the D blog post went to a comment left at the Lone Star Ball blog. The commenter, who identified himself as “Sports Producer, WFAA-TV/WFAA.com” but didn’t include a name, wrote: “Can’t speak to the $100,000 photo but we were offered a 7-second video for 41 grand, pictures (plural) for 10K.”
Deadspin took up the story on February 8, 2012, with more details about the alleged sex tape.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing Hamilton go into the restroom with a woman while an employee of the restaurant blocked the entrance, according to the TV station’s employee. Some customers were able to peek into the bathroom. …
One eyewitness approached our source and told him he had a seven-second clip from his phone that showed Hamilton having sex in the stall of the men’s bathroom. The station immediately refused.
So that’s the Josh Hamilton sex tape rumor — someone is shopping a seven-second cellphone video clip of Hamilton having drunken sex in a pub bathroom.
